Longshoreman Sentenced to Prison on Federal Weapons Conviction

April 3, 2013

Longshoreman Arnold E. Rogers appeared before Judge Kimba Wood in the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York for sentencing on April 3, 2013. Rogers was one of 22 individuals, including 8 other longshoremen, that were arrested on October 5, 2010 following an investigation into cocaine importation through the Port of New York. Rogers pleaded guilty in July 2012 to illegally selling a nine millimeter semi-automatic handgun and ammunition knowing that it would be used in furtherance of drug trafficking. Rogers was sentenced to a term of 18 months incarceration in federal prison to be followed by a two year period of supervised release.

The 2010 arrests were the result of a joint investigation by the Waterfront Commission, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Internal Revenue Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the US department of Labor – Office of the Inspector General. The case was prosecuted by the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

Rogers was suspended from working at the Port by Commission action following his arrest.
